A poorly constructed skylight is the weak point of any roof. Made up of seams, connecting points, and overlapping materials, conventional skylights can be a point of vulnerability that allows penetration from water, rain, and other forms of precipitation.
VTECH skylights are different. They’re made with a unique Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) process that blends tough-but-flexible Polyurethane and Isocyanate in a mold, where it cures in a special shape to form the skylight.
Whether you’re a homeowner seeking more natural indoor lighting, or a commercial building owner designing a modern structure with all the amenities, VTECH skylights are attractive and functional. They improve your quality of life at home and work increasing your property’s value.
The quality and brand of skylight makes all the difference. A leaking skylight can cause structural damage, require hundreds or thousands of dollars in repairs, and create headaches that can last for the service life of the skylight. A functional skylight is a thing of beauty, bringing the outside in while keeping the elements out.
What Constitutes a Watertight Application?
Our watertight applications do not fail. VTECH Skylights are made as a single piece, creating no opportunity for leaks.
Years after a VTECH skylight is installed, the skylight still keeps out water and lets in light. At VTECH, we’ve performed hundreds of tests on our products to ensure that the applications remain sound after exposure to stresses like pressing weight, fire, impacts from heavy objects, and damage from extreme wind.
- We dropped a 200-pound bag of lead shot on our skylight and the bag bounced off without penetrating the skylight.
- We dropped a 600-pound bag of lead shot on our skylight, and the glass cracked, but the laminate beneath held the weight and the skylight remained intact.
- Our skylight was subjected to 250 miles per hour winds, and the seal around the glass held.

Our Installation Process Ensures a Watertight Fit.
Skylight leaks can be the cause of mold, mildew, softwood, wood rot, pest infestation, and more. Depending on the room’s layout and contents, a dripping skylight can even cause damage to your walls, floors, furnishing, and technology.
With VTECH’s simple installation, there’s no assembly required and no parts to lose. Our solid-state skylights can be installed on a curb in minutes. A double bead of polyurethane adhesive and a few fasteners on each side of the frame are all it takes to keep the skylight in place and the weather out.
In other words, with the right use of materials and processes, skylights can look and perform their best for years to come. Our installation process is multi-step, but it’s also simple and elegant. Watch it for yourself to see what we mean: https://www.vtechskylights.com/videos/
3. What Defines a No Leak Skylight?
It’s not the curb or the flashing that makes a no-leak skylight: it’s the skylight’s design, pure and simple. A no-leak skylight is assembled into a single piece that needs only proper installation to be watertight for years to come.
Once in place, the skylight is no more vulnerable to rain or the other elements than any other part of the roof. The tight fit and overlapping flashing makes your skylight a fully integrated piece of the roofing system: beautiful in design and appearance.
